Ala Lei
Description
The shell featured in the ʻAla Lei is commonly known as the Soldier’s Cone — a shell admired for its intricate patterns and understated beauty.
Though often considered “common,” each one holds its own unique artistry, shaped by the ocean over time. In Hawaiian, cone shells are called pūpū ʻalā, with some varieties given special names for their distinct characteristics, particularly the more venomous types.
This lei is hand-knotted on water-resistant waxed linen cording and accented with authentic, fragrant fair trade sandalwood beads. Featuring a native Hawaiian cone shell from the designer’s personal collection, each piece is lovingly handmade in Hawaii.
