Kapiʻolani Park in Waikīkī was once a very unique part of Waikīkī. It had a horse racetrack and was surrounded by marshland and lagoons with tiny islands within them.
My great grandfather used to tell me stories of courting his wahine in his youth. He would buy a pikake lei and they would head to Waikiki to watch the horse races and then rent a rowboat to go to Makee Island where he would steal a kiss from her.
A fun little history that inspired these oval shaped intertwined Olina Poepoe Hoop earrings.
