Description
Hand carved white mother of pearl shell earrings resembling the flower of the Hau tree.
Hau (Hibiscus tiliaceus) was a canoe plant likely brought to Hawaii by Ancient Polynesians.
Hau has many important uses with the wood used for the outrigger of a canoe, the inner bark for cordage and the sap for medicine.
Hau is also a rare Hawaiian translation for a mother of pearl shell.
